For January 9th I'm going back 42 years to 1979 and an FA Cup 3rd Round tie. 4th Division York City were drawn at home to 2nd Division Luton Town in the days before their fierce Non-League rivalry became a thing. This was the first FA Cup tie that I ever went to (I'm approaching 200 now) and was the first time I saw a team managed by future Spurs Manager David Pleat.
Annoyingly, this is one of those programmes without a date on the cover This is explained by the horrendous weather conditions at the time which made it obvious that the game wasn't going to go ahead on the originally scheduled date. It was eventually played the following Tuesday night on a terrible surface which suited York no doubt. I recall a surprisingly straight forward win for York played out before 6,700. The programme (a folded single sheet) is a very poor effort, partly explained by the fact that it was given away free on the turnstiles as part of the admission price.
CRB Match No. 32
