1982/01/18 - Tottenham Hotspur 1 Nottingham Forest 0 - League Cup 5th Round

For January 18th I'm going back 39 years when an 18 year old yours truly decided to use his student Railcard, jump on the train down to London from Leeds and go and stay with his Grandparents. By a strange stroke of luck (well okay, I did have an ulterior motive) I noticed that Spurs were taking on Nottingham Forest that same evening making this my first ever visit to White Hart Lane (today my most visited football ground ever).

This match was a sponsor-free League Cup 5th Round (Quarter Final) tie and resulted in a 1-0 win for Spurs before 31,192 (Ossie Ardiles was the scorer). In this season Spurs actually made it all the way through to the Final at Wembley but by that time the competition had been re-christened as the "Milk Cup" (so healthy!). It should have ended in tears but, for Spurs, there was no point crying over spilt milk - Liverpool came from behind to win that Final after extra time!

CRB Match No. 145
