For January 23rd I'm going back 39 years to an FA Cup 4th Round tie between Spurs and Leeds, Leeds, Leeds.
This was my 2nd ever visit to the old White Hart Lane and my first time seeing Spurs in the FA Cup. Spurs were FA Cup holders and had a reputation for being a Cup side at the time (I have never had a recollection of them being a League side!). Indeed in 1982 Spurs reached Wembley in both the FA and League Cup Finals and won the FA Cup again.
Spurs won this game 1-0 courtesy of a Garth Crooks strike. Leeds, under the management of Alan "Sniffer" Clarke had an otherwise strong side which was rather underweight upfront (Aiden Butterworth and Gary Hamson anyone?). The attendance was 46,126 and I was back home in Wetherby by 9PM in time for a couple of celebratory pints down at the Swan & Talbot.
CRB Match No. 146
