For January 8th I'm going back 38 years to 1983 and an FA Cup tie which I went to with Mark Westerman and David Bower. 4th Division York City, under the leadership of Denis Smith, were assembling their record breaking title-winning side of the following season and were drawn away at Selhurst Park to face 2nd Division Crystal Palace in the 3rd Round. I recall a brave battling performance from City who were only just vanquished 2-1 by Palace.
