This was a friendly International fixture against Cameroon, the African team that gave the 3 Lions the shock of their lives the previous summer in the Italia 90 World Cup Quarter Final in Naples. Cameroon came so close to coming out on top in that game and, by way of consolation for the losers, the FA arranged a Wembley friendly a few months later.
At 38 years old, Roger Milla became one of the stars of Italia 90 with 4 goals and an iconic hip swaying goal celebration over by the corner flag that became one of the images of the World Cup. To the disappointment of thousands however, Milla refused to play in this game due to a dispute over his request for a "personal reward" (appearance fee) from the FA.
In front of 61,075, England under Graham Taylor in only his 4th game as manager ran out 2-0 winners with both goals coming from Gary Lineker. Ian Wright made his England debut in this match, the first of his 33 caps (9 goals). Oh and the programme had a truly dreadful cover design - apologies if it gave you googly eyes!
