For February 20th I'm going back 28 years to 1993 and Tottenham's League game against Leeds United.
This was the first ever season of the new Premier League. Leeds United had made history the previous season by winning the last ever edition of the First Division Championship. The restructuring of English football clearly caused Howard Wilkinson's Leeds all sorts of problems as they ended the following season way back in 15th place, only 2 points clear of Crystal Palace in the relegation places. Or perhaps it was the loss of Eric Cantona to arch rivals Manchester United partway through the season that was the issue? Irrespective, what would I give to see Tottenham win the League title and finish 15th the following season? Spurs finished the season only 8 points ahead of Leeds but in a comfortable 8th position (only 10 points separated 6th placed Liverpool from relegated Palace).
Leeds had crushed Spurs 5-0 back in August with Cantona having scored the Premier League's first ever hattrick for Leeds but, in this game, Spurs exacted full revenge, cruising to a 4-0 win. Scoring star of the day was Oh Teddy Teddy, Teddy Teddy Teddy Teddy Sheringham with a hattrick. He was on his way to becoming that season's Premier League golden boot winner with 22 goals. The other goal was scored by future reality TV star Neil Ruddock.
