2020/02/01 - York City 4 Chester 2 - National League North

For February 1st I'm going back to last year and a National League North game between York City and Chester.

This game was probably City's best performance of last season and was all the more enjoyable for being a contest between 2 ex-Football League clubs with sizeable followings generating a proper atmosphere in front of a crowd of 3,543. It finished 4-2 and City's goals were scored by Sean Newton, Kieran Green and on loan Kurt Willoughby (2).
Little did we know it but the football season was about to come to a grinding halt due to Covid19 with the National League North season being abandoned and promotion and play-off places being determined on a points per game (PPG) basis. As a result, pole position City at the point of the abandonment suddenly found themselves finishing in 2nd place due to PPG and fighting to be in the Play-Offs in which they eventually failed to advance. Only York City could finish their league in first place and then fail to gain promotion.

CRB Match No. 2381
