Today I'm going back 10 years to 24th July 2011 and the early season Scottish Premier League game between Dundee United and Kilmarnock.
The day after visiting Ibrox to see Rangers play we managed to find another Scottish Premier League game to go to, this time in Dundee. Dundee is interesting for having two senior clubs in the town: Dundee and Dundee United. What makes the situation more unusual is that the stadia of the two clubs is located in the same street with the clubs being less than 400 yards apart. United in recent years have been the more successful of the two but success is relative and you have to back to the early 1980s for United's heydays when they won the League title (1982/3) and then reached the Semi-Finals of the European Cup the following season.
This game finished level with one goal apiece. In front of a crowd of 6,232, Kilmarnock took the lead in the 46th minute through Rory McKeown. The United equaliser came in the 70th minute courtesy of Danny Swanson. Special mention here must also go to the United player with the funniest name (warning: Schoolboy humour coming) him being David Goodwillie. Sadly, the fun stops there because Goodwillie has a somewhat chequered past including a conviction in a Civil court in 2017 for rape whilst he was a player at Plymouth Argyle. He left Argyle shortly afterwards by mutual consent and never had to face a criminal prosecution.
CRB Match No. 1826
