2012/01/14 - Salisbury City 2 York City 6 - FA Trophy 2nd Round

For January 14th I'm going back 9 years to 2012, the Raymond McEnhill Stadium and Salisbury City v York City in the FA Trophy 2nd Round.

These days, a visit to Salisbury tends to provoke wry comments about novichok, or always wanting to visit the cathedral or Zizzi. In 1995, my first ever visit to Salisbury wasn't to try to murder a Russian spy but rather to visit the City's football ground which, at the time, was to be found in Victoria Park, a regular park which is open to the public every day of the week, rather like Aldershot's Recreation Ground. Two years later City moved to a purpose built stadium which they didn't have to share with dog walkers and joggers. The Raymond McEnhill Stadium (locally known as "the Ray Mac") is located in the suburb of Old Sarum and I've visited 4 times including this visit which is my most recent.

This game was the start of York's successful FA Trophy and Conference promotion campaign which ended in the Club visiting Wembley twice in 8 days the following May. This game is also the most goals that I've ever seen York score away from home as it finished Salisbury 2 York City 6 with the goals coming from Matty Blair (2), Jamie Reed, Paddy McLaughlin (2) and sub Matthew Blinkhorn. Happy days indeed!
